O’s Notes: Gato Libre is the Japanese free fusion quartet featuring Natsuki Tamura (t), Satoko Fujii (accordion), Kazuhiko Tsumura (g) and Yasuko Kaneko (tb) replacing the late Norikatsu Koreyasu (b). The new configuration continues the spirit of the original quartet with Tamura composing all of the music. DuDu is more accessible than some of their first releases while retaining the edgy avant-garde roots. It remains a platform for Natsuki to stretch out with extreme sound and adventure on his instrument most notably on songs like “Nanook” and “Mouse”.
