O’s Notes: Carolyn presents an album packed with variety, Eklektika has both traditional and contemporary standards, some stage-worthy tunes, and a few heartfelt ballads. All the arrangements are fresh with intriguing twists that add character. She gets help from a dozen musicians in various configurations from minimal piano accompaniment by Peter Rioux on “Embraceable You” to a quartet featuring saxophonist Shelley Carrol on “Morning In Crown Heights”. Other highlights are a fresh laid-back arrangement of “Skylark” and the swinging “Out Of Nowhere”.
