O’s Notes: Trumpeter Pete Rodriguez assembles a quintet for El Conde Negro, his latest release on Destiny Records. Luis Perdomo (p), Ricky Rodriguez (b), Rudy Royston (d) and Robert Quintero (perc) are a well-oiled unit that has a very positive influence on the younger Rodriguez. The vibe is a Latin fusion that includes five originals of ten and several vocals notably “Sombras Que Paso”. This is a balanced session with warm ballads like “Ten Fe”, the vocals and a wealth of racy instrumentals.
