Jazz Ruler Type: Avant Garde
O’s Notes: Some will try to dismiss this as another collection of introverted bizarre renditions from a musician looking for a purpose or trying to kick a habit. This is none of the above. Instead trombonist Joey Sellers leads his Jazz Aggregation through seven creative compositions that are closer to bebop than way out free jazz. But the level of improvisation drives the classification here. The large ensemble shines, especially on tracks like the warm “Carly B” and upbeat finale “Val”.
