O’s Notes: “El Toro” is producer Alfred Flores, a San Antonio based master of the marimba and MalletKat. He leads“Zarabande, a quintet with pianist/composer Mark Little, vibraphonist/composer Joe Caploe, Pete Ojeda on bass and drummer Dean Macomber. The percussion-laden tunes are softened by the warm tones of the marimba. “The West Wind” and the title track are strong examples. Ojeda’s punchy bass line“gives “The Painful Truth” a funky vibe that is tempered by “Praise”. This is a spicy Latin set that warrants your attention.
