O’s Notes: Vincent mixes up mostly straight ahead jazz tunes with a few funky contemporary numbers like “Tom Tom” featuring bassist Essiet Essiet and “Thoughts”. Juris Dudi plays drums and wrote the two funky numbers. Danny Grissett plays piano and Jeremy Pelt adds trumpet on half of the tracks. Herring plays his sax with a sense of urgency and a lot of power. These are the characteristics that define his signature. He’s really swinging on their arrangement of “Caravan” along with Pelt’s warm trumpet. We saw these guys perform many of these songs live in Germany (as reported on www.OsPlaceJazz.com) and their live spirit carried over to the recording.
