O’s Notes: This is a new celebration of klezmer music focused on good eats! It is Shapiro’s 2nd album with a Yiddish foundation on Tzadik. Paul combines jazz, pop & R&B with Jewish melodies performed by his Ribs & Brisket Revue. Cilla Owens and Babi Floyd sing in front of Brian Mitchell (p), Booker King (b), Tony Lewis (d) and leader Shapiro (sax, cl, vocals). “Utt-Da Zay” starts out like klezmer and the vocals transition the tune to a swinging instrumental number. Most of the songs follow a similar pattern. There is humor, good spirit, good music and of course good eats in these ten tunes. Among the best at “Oy Veys Mir”, Dunkin Bagel” and “Mama Goes Where Papa Goes”. You’ve got to listen to this one before you dismiss it!
