O’s Notes: This is a nice mix opening with a subtle version of “Blue In Green” followed by “More Sybil’s Blues” with Carl Burnett’s sultry guitar solo bleeding into a liquid melody from Gunn. He applies the wah-wah to his electric trumpet for a unique sound. Bassist Carl Henderson opens “Summertime” and D.J. Neil Armstrong adds turntables for truly modern cover. “Lynn’s Joint” is R&B and the finale goes digital spacey. Nick Rolfe (p), Rocky Bryant (d) and Kahil Bell (percussion) round out the band. There are only 5 songs but they all sizzle for a contemporary session that pushes boundaries while retaining a groove that many can easily grasp.
