O’s Notes: Daniel Bernard Roumain plays violin. He enlists the support of pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto for a couple of tracks. These etudes are closer to classical music than jazz from our perspective. DJ Spooky puts some funky beats and synths into “Resonance” to liven things up as does DJ Scientific on “Fayetteville”. Roumain continues that theme on “The La La Song”. Most of this session was a symphonic performance vs. the more energetic materials we sited leaving us with mixed emotions. The creative mix of classics with acid is extreme but when it’s on, it is exciting.
