O’s Notes: Barber may be a new name to some of you but he is a talented and experienced saxophonist. He composed, arranged and produced all of the music on Everyday Magic, nine contemporary jazz tunes. Everyday Magic is also the name of his band featuring Jody Nardone (p), Jerry Navarro (b), Adam Agati (g) and Nioshi Jackson (d). They test the boundaries on “Floodsong” led by Rahsaan’s raspy sax lead. But the bull of the material is accessible highlighted by the bluesy ballad “Manhattan Grace”, “Why So Blue”, “Redemption” and “Memphis Soul” with guest trombonist Roland Barber. We liked what Rahsaan had to say.
