O’s Notes: Bassist Rob Thorsen and Mike Wofford are the core of a quartet that included drummers Duncan Moore or Harold Mason with melodies from Chuck Manning (sax), Holly Hoffman (fl) or Kamau Kenyatta (sax). They swing hard on the opener, which is followed by “Besame Mucho” with Thorsen making his bowed bass sing the lead lines. There’s samba in the air on “Let’s Fall In Love” and “Mojave”, with bop and blues surfacing elsewhere notably on the mysterious “Blues Clues”. This is a versatile session that will capture and maintain your interest.
