O’s Notes: Evolve is close to being a one-man show by multi-instrumentalist, writer and producer Jackiem Joyner. Kayta Matsuno plays guitar on five of the eleven selections with guest artists Keiko Matsui (p) and Gerald Albright (sax) making appearances on one selection each. We liked “Breathe” and “Big Step” (with Albright) best in an average set. Smooth jazz lovers and fans of Joyner’s warm sax will be most excited about this release.
