O’s Notes: Atakoglu is a fusion-based Turkish pianist. This is a follow-up to his last energetic outing Istanbul In Blue. They start here with the same fervor on “Into You”. The high level of intensity is anchored by John Patitucci (b) and Horacio ‘El Negro’ Hernandez (d). Fahir incorporates elements of Latin and Middle Eastern music into the mix giving this a worldly contemporary sound. Randy Brecker (t) stands out on “NY-Retrospective” and our favorite, “Seven” a funky cut. Bob Mintzer (sax) shines on the closing ballad “Your Face” capping a rich session.
