O’s Notes: Phil is the consummate rhythm jazz guitarist. On this session he plays chord melodies on seven covers of popular tunes and three of his own. The session was originally recorded in 1967 including supporting musicians Wynton Kelly (p), Jimmy Cobb (d). Phil also employed an orchestra on half of the songs. Among the best are the Latin vibe of “Corcovado”, “Tangerine” and “Up, Up And Away”.
