O’s Notes: These are 14 songs by Randy Newman, a masterful pianist who has written a wealth of compositions. They are generally short, less than three minutes but easily repeatable for further enjoyment. Steve (p) is joined by Markus Rieck (d) and Dietmar Fuhr (b) to form the instrumental trio. These songs typically have vocals but the instrumental versions here are well done and surprisingly convey much of the same sentiment. It’s American history in music.
