O’s Notes: The band is a quartet with Gregg Kallor (p), Johannes Weidenmueller (b), Jeff Hirahfirld (d) and leader Artmann on flutes. The program is mostly original music by Artmann with one by Kallor and a couple of free improvisations. There is a peaceful aura that connects each of the tunes with the listener in a stress free engagement. But there are a few diversions: a taste of edgy funk on “Garuda’s Song” and the racy “Fum-Fo-Fi”. Both are distractions to the tranquil Fields of Pannonia.
