O’s Notes: First Light was originally released in 1971 highlighting the title track with warm rhythms showcasing Hubbard on trumpet. The supporting cast is solid with Jack DeJohnette (d), Ron Carter (b), Richard Wyands (p), Airto Moreira (perc) and George Benson (g) forming the core. There is also a full string section and other orchestral instruments accenting the performance especially on “Yesterday’s Dreams” and “Lonely Town”. There are two bonus tracks included that fit in well with the program including a live version of “First Light” with Eric Gale replacing Benson on guitar.
