O’s Notes: There’s a sense of cool, swinging jazz that grabbed us on track one, “The Soothsayer” with Erik von Buchau (vibes), Steve Heckman (ts) and Beckett’s energetic flute. This groove continues throughout the set with Beckett blending the sounds of his flute with Graham Bruce (flugelhorn), Max Perkoff (tb), Damien Masterson (harmonica), Dave Bell (g) and David Udolf (p). The varied instrumentation leads to fresh sound that sounds good. Good examples are “Pamela’s Passion”, the Latin based “Coral Keys” and the title track. Gerald brings the flute back onto the jazz scene with a lot of excitement.
