O’s Notes: Miami Saxophone Quartet makes a live recording at the University of Miami for their fifth CD. The quartet is Gary Keller (soprano), Mike Brignola (baritone), Ed Calle (alto) and Gary Lindsay (tenor). They are surrounded by five fine musicians including Bryan Lynch (t) and Jim Gasior (p). The resulting large ensemble is fleet on their feet as they swing through eight tunes; four are Lindsay originals complimenting four freshly arranged classics. The solos are what make this one sizzle and they are plentiful! You can feel the live energy on Four of A Kind!
