O’s Notes: Guitarist and composer Chris Jentsch leads a quartet with Matt Renzi (sax, fl, cl), Jim Whitney (b) and John Mettam (d).“Fractured Pop“is an evolving saga going back to 2002. Jentsch uses a core rock/pop song and layers on spontaneous jazz improvisation to arrive at these works that were recorded and videotaped in 2009. The audio CD is divided into two programs with eleven total selections. We actually enjoyed the second audio program of more abstract renderings like “Old Folks Postlude”, a recording of nature’s nightly sounds (crickets) and distant highway sounds. The DVD has four main songs, three alternate takes; a couple of slide shows and four remixes. You won’t get bored and you’ll be thrilled if you resonate with the“Fractured Pop“concept.
