O’s Notes: Charlie plays a seven string ‘guitar’ that is very unique. It has three bass strings tuned G-C-F and four guitar strings tuned C-F-D flat-D. He manages to carry a solid bass line while playing guitar along the way. It is something that you have to see to believe. There is no dubbing on this live to tape mono recording! Hunter’s new album features a rather unusual band configuration with drummer Eric Kalb, Alan Ferber and Curis Fowlkes on trombones, and Eric Biondo on trumpet. This is nothing out of the ordinary for Charlie who has assembled atypical band configurations for past recordings as well. He puts them to work playing a funky blues set. We liked the slow simmering groove on “High and Dry” and the funky beats of “High Pockets and A Fanny Pack”. We believe he saved the best for last with the blues based title track wrapping the set.
