O’s Notes: Guitarist Dennis Rea is off on a global adventure with Giant Steppes, a set of four world jazz tunes. They start with an Asian, Middle Eastern vibe on “Live At Gaochang” that evolves into a rather unusual, pop fusion. The music is a reflection of Rea’s experiences in Central Asia. The Tuvan throat singing sounds like a baritone sax on “Wind of the World’s Nest”. Rea’s supporting musicians include Tuvan singer Albert Kuvezin, Russian choral ensemble Juliana & PAVA, bassist Wadim Dicke and Greg Kelley (t) in this eclectic mix.
