O’s Notes: We are happy to report that Joyce Cooling remains on top form in her latest in a string of smooth jazz releases. Her formula for success includes producer/keyboardist Jay Wagner and a tight rhythm section. Bassists Buddy Rivera and Nelson Braxton do a great job anchoring the bottom. There are eleven new songs, a mix of mostly funky smooth instrumentals with a few vocals that encourage us to do our part for a better environment. We liked the cool vibe of “Delores In Pink”, “The Red Rose”, the bouncy “Grass Roots” and the solid mid-tempo groove of “Save this Dance For Me”. “Cobra” has an exotic feel with Joyce leading the way slithering through the melody on her guitar. Aside from raising awareness with environmental issues, Cooling has been a strong supporter on research for curing mental illness. A portion of the proceeds from this CD will go to NAMI for that effort!
