O’s Notes: Eric brings together a strong brass section including Marcus Printup (t), Wycliffe Gordon (tb) and Wessell Anderson (s) to compliment him on piano. There are ten new original compositions that have a sound and feel that places Reed among the masters. He plays with confidence and maturity, sharing the spotlight with fellow musicians, particularly Printup who plays heartfelt melodies with and without the mute. At the core is “Suite Sisters”, in three versions: soulful (fine and brown), popping (crazy red), and reflective (black beauty). It’s definitely a cool set.
