O’s Notes: Aymée Nuviola is a native of Havana and she is steeped in traditional Cuban music. Havana Nocturne covers the seductive, romance, bolero, and unabashed emotions of the Havana night scene from the 1950s-60s. Nuviola’s principal accompaniment is pianist Kemuel Roig. They are supported by special guests, guitarist Julian Avila, Hilario Bell (d), Lowell Ringel (b) and Jose ‘Majuro’ Aguilera (perc). All the musicians provide backing vocals with all lyrics in Spanish. This is a grand view of Nuviola’s history including influences from Puerto Rico – “Obsession”, Argentina – “Veteran de mi”, and Mexico – “Perfidia”. Aymée captures the fine elements of romantic Latin ballads.
