O’s Notes: Wynton is in full effect mode for He and She unleashing his creative genius to record a fine album. The program consists of twelve songs interwoven with ten poems, all Marsalis originals telling a story of courtship. The band is Walter Blanding (sax), Dan Nimmer (p), Carlos Henriquez (p), Ali Jackson (d) and Wynton leading the charge on trumpet. They embark on many traditional jazz styles starting with ragtime on “School Boy” adding a few ballads, some hot salsa with “First Time” and swinging hard on “The Razor Rim”. The story is beautifully illustrated in words and song and the sound quality is also very good making this one of our favorites of the year!
