O’s Notes: You’ve heard Shilts before, blowing sax melodies on top of the funky beats of Down To The Bone. He comes out on his own here on ARTizen, a new label led by Rick Braun, Rich Elliot and a few others. We expected a lot of smooth jazz and that’s what we got but it also incorporated a dose of old school funky soul on tunes like “Headboppin” and “Got Love”. Paul wrote all except one of the tracks. There are a lot of cool hooks that help to differentiate it from the standard smooth sax CDs. At this pace, he’ll be around for a while.
