O’s Notes: Smooth jazz saxophonist Luis Alas resides in Atlanta where he is known as The Sax of the South. He strives to create his own voice in a sea of contemporary jazz saxophonists with upbeat danceable tunes. Keyboardist Edard Menifee and drummer Marcus William join him for High Life, six songs in almost 23 minutes. There’s an old school groove on “Breaking Out”, one of five Alas originals to go with a cover of Dave Koz’ “Lullaby For A Rainy Night”. We also enjoyed Alas’s passionate “Silky & Smooth”. He’s new on the scene but sounds familiar.
