O’s Notes: Saxophonist, composer and producer Ernie Watts has led this quartet for almost 20 years! We’ve had the good fortune to catch them live at the Jazz Keller in FrankfurtDeutsche many years ago and continue enjoying their recorded music. Home Light is the latest, again with pianist Christof Saenger, Rudi Engel on bass and Heinrich Koebberling on drums. Ernie plays most of the melodies with his warm sax but this is an equitable effort with each musician capturing the spotlight on multiple occasions. Watts composed three of the nine selections with one from Saenger and a Watts/Saenger collaboration. It’s a warm head-bobbing set, with a few ballads and that feel good element that will leave you satisfied.
