O’s Notes: Born, raised, educated, and educating in Indiana, trombonist Andrew Danforth is truly Homegrown, his latest release. In part, it refers to his personal voice on sax, but also to the once famous jazz scene on Indiana Avenue, and a prominent Black neighborhood displaced by the Interstate. It was also home of jazz legends Freddie Hubbard, Wes Montgomery, and JJ Johnson. Danforth wants to bring that spirit back to Indy and he’s a seed! We liked “Absence of the Avenue”, “No Range Hue In The Uplands”, and “In Motion” with strong interplay from bassist Nick Tucker, and tenor saxophonist Sean Imboden. Christopher Pitts plays piano with bassist Nick Tucker and Carrington Clinton on drums over eight original selections that should catch your attention.
