O’s Notes: This is one of Europe’s top funk bands and they really have the right ingredients. They open with “Cakewatchers”, a song with lyrics and instrumentation that reminded us of Parliament. Fred Wesley joined them on “Fred” with Jewl, Fred and company singing, rapping and having a good time. The rap is rhythmic and well integrated with the music. It’s all upbeat including the furious pace of “Hot ‘N’ Funky”. The instrumentation includes horns and guitars, with smart use of programmed beats! US funk bands would do well to take notes! This formula works well.
