O’s Notes: Vocalist, pianist, composer, arranger and producer Nicole Zuraitis puts her passionate, bluesy vocals on top of a band that matches her energy on How Love Begins. Maya Kronfeld (B3), Gilad Hekselman (g), Christian McBride (b) and Dan Pugach (d) are fully engaged on cookers like “The Good Ways” and contemporary, pop ballads like “Travel”. Hekselman shines on the fusion-based “Reverie”, then plays in a duet with Zuraitis on “Let Me Love You”. They swing on “Burn” featuring McBride and guest David Cook (p), then warm our hearts on “The Garden”. The varied approaches make this a winner!
