O’s Notes: Curtis fuller is one of the most renowned jazz trombonists and he is the leader for this outing. The band is a sextet with Keith Oxman (sax), Al Hood (t), Chip Stephens (p), Ken Walker (b) and Todd Reid (d). Ken and Todd establish a solid foundation and keep things moving all the way through. This is a great two-disc set starting with a live rehearsal at Dazzle in Denver and then the studio recording. The live selections are extended as the musicians play to the audience response! These guys really swing on “Minor’s Holiday” and “The Court”. They show their mellow side on “I Will Tell Her”. Our preference is the live disc with all of the spontaneous improvisation.
