O’s Notes: “The Skipper”, bassist Henry Franklin is back with another swinging session. He forms a quintet with Azar Lawrence (sax), Theo Saunders (p), Carl Burnett (d) and Ramadan Mu Min (perc). “Mantra”, one of three selections written by Saunders really swings and includes a cool solo form Franklin. Lawrence also wrote a few of the selections notably “Truth”, a syncopated number with a festive spirit. Melodies come from Theo and Azar over the popping rhythm section. They make a strong statement on the title track which resonates through the entire set.
