O’s Notes: Mika Stoltzman plays the marimba and touches a wide array of styles on If You Believe. A strong team including Steve Gadd (d), Eddie Gomez (b), John Tropea (g) and her husband Richard Stoltzman (cl) supports her. The program leans towards the contemporary side with enough juice to satisfy a wide audience. The tittles are fully descriptive highlighted by the bossa nova beats of “Sambata”; the peaceful ” Irish Spirit”; the festive “La Fiesta” and the funky “”Marika Groove”. It works!
