O’s Notes: I Am Pete Rodríguez is a distinguished statement of identity for Pete amongst the many unrelated trumpeters with the same last name, and out of his late father, salsero, Pete “El Conde” Rodriguez’s shadow! The younger trumpeter Pete Rodriguez assembles a new quartet with Esteban Castro (p), Raul Reyes (b), and Koleby Royston (d). Guest artist Jon Beshay (sax, fl) makes notable contributions on several selections. They take it up a notch on “The End” before shining on “Mi Corazon” with nice work all around.
