O’s Notes: Impressions has a deep, personal stamp from pianist, producer, bandleader Israel Tanenbaum. He returns to his Puerto Rican roots and musical friends for what he considers “his first Latin jazz album ever”. John Benitas (b), Richie Flores (congas, bongos), and. Jonathan Powell (t) are among many fine artists present. The horns paint a festive atmosphere on the opening tune, “Strange Destiny” and the Latinbaum Jazz Ensemble takes flight! We felt the Calypso vibe on “Mambo Raro”, a groove that was present throughout the session.
