O’s Notes: Pianist, composer and educator Victor Gould was born in L.A., educated at Berklee and Loyola where he received a Master’s degree before taking residence in New York. Gould leads a trio with bassist Tamir Shmerling and drummer Anwar Marshall on his latest release, In Our Time. Marshall has a rousing solo on “Resilience”, an upbeat tune contrasted with Gould’s graceful piano on “Queen Alma”. Guest tenor saxophonist Dayna Stephens adds texture on “Infant Eyes” and “Minority”, two covers in an otherwise all-original album. They wrap up with a soothing string quartet on “In Memoriam”, a fresh set coinciding with our re-emergence from the pandemic.
