O’s Notes: The Ortf Recordings are a celebration of the music of organist Larry Young during 1964-65 in Paris, France. The music was originally recorded live and in the studio for French radio and this is the first CD/vinyl release. Larry is captured with The Nathan Davis (sax) Quartet including Woody Shaw (t) and Billy Brooks (d). The Champs-Elysees All-Stars also appear on the 2-disc set. There are many memorable tunes includes here notably “Talkin About J.C.” and “Discotheque”. Those are just a couple of many mid tempo swinging tunes with that characteristic Larry Young sound. This is one of the best recreations of Young’s finest moments.
