O’s Notes: Canadian guitarist, composer Sam Kirmayer follows his debut recording (High and Low) of standards with In This Moment, an all-original album. He also expands from a trio to a sextet with Al McLean (t-sax), Muhammad Abdul Al-Khabyyr (tb), Sean Fyfe (p), Alec Washington (b) and André White (d). They swing hard on “Cross Purpose” and “Afterthought” with tastes of blues and ballads as well. Kirmayer stands tall as a guitarist and even more so as a leader and composer making the moment impactful.
