O’s Notes: Aruán Ortiz is a masterful pianist, vocalist and composer born in Cuba and now residing in Brooklyn where he’s made a name for himself in Latin/Free jazz over the past 15 years or so. Inside Rhythmic Falls is his latest endeavor accompanied by drummer Andrew Cyrille and percussionist Mauricio Herrera (also voice). The stage is wide open with lots of space to hear instrumental tones, notably on “Marimbula’s Mood”. While there is an abundance of free form improvisational jazz it is not too far gone. We enjoyed both Part I & II of the title track as well as “El Ashé de la Palabra” and “Lucero Mundo”.
