O’s Notes: Iranian saxophonist, composer, educator Ardeshir Pourkeramati moved to Vancouver at 11 where he resides today. Along the way he was decorated with a Doctor of Musical Arts from USC. He performs locally and surrounds himself with a fine band on his debut album, introducing… Ardeshir. Julian Borkowski (t), Winston Matsushita (p), Davis Caballero (b), and Graham Villette (d) are the core musicians. He composed five of the selections to go with seven freshly arranged classics. They all swing, notably “Blues Up And Down” including co-producer Cory Weeds (t-sax). We also enjoyed the passion on “Darn That Dream”, and the mystery of “Midnight Paradox”.
