O’s Notes: David’s band is a tight unit that has performed together for years. Larry McKenna (sax), Taro Okamoto (d) and Matthew Parris (b) surround Leonhart on piano with Nancy Reed adding vocals. The music sounds very good as jazzy arrangements liven the standard tunes. These are songs that the band plays for the Winter Holiday Jazz Concert. Leonhart has wanted to record them for some time. It comes through in their heart-felt performance. Among the best arrangements are “We Three Kings” and the swinging “Sleigh Ride”. This sounds more like jazz with a dose of Holiday music but the songs are still recognizable.
