O’s Notes: I’m In is the latest release from trombonist Joe Fiedler. His sound is husky with a large presence. The band is now a trio, one less than on Sackbut Stomp. The new lineup includes bassist Rob Jost and Michael Sarin on drums creating a masculine sound. They open with a syncopated number “Grip” which turns out to be one of the best in the set. They venture into free space from time to time before snapping back to a more accessible modern jazz. Fiedler wrote and produced the entire session. Among the best are “Completely ‘Peccable”, “The Box” and “In Walked Cleo”.
