O’s Notes: Randy does more than run through scales when he’s burnin’. Listen to “The Jump Back”. He plays the melodies and takes enough time to let the notes resonate. The music he plays here is bop but there is a hint of blues; you can feel the melodies. “Careless Love” is a good example. His band is drummer Gene Jackson, Xavier Davis (p) and Dwayne Bruno on bass. They accentuate the positive! Half of the tunes are as a quartet and the balance sans piano as a trio. Randy Seeks to learn with each outing. As we enjoyed this set, we expect the next to be phenomenal.
