O’s Notes: This 1955 recording captures vibraphonist Joe Roland at the peak of his career. He leads a quintet through a dozen standards. Roland blends well with both Dick Garcia (g) and Freddie Redd (p) on the melodies. This was one of his few releases as a leader and probably the best.
