O’s Notes: Tumbao Bravo is a sextet established in 2003 by saxophonist Paul Vornhagen and conguero Alberto Nacif. The current sextet features Vornhagen with Dave Rajewski (t), Armando Vega (congas), Olman Piedra (timbales), Kurt Schreitmueller (p), and Patrick Prout (b), Joy of the Mambo is a Cuban extravaganza with tastes of Mambo, Cha Cha, Rhumba, and Bolero leading to a rich, percussive experience. Highlights are the relaxed pace of “Chan’s Song” & “On A Misty Night”, the energetic “Theme For Pvh”, “Tres Hermanas”, and “Hey Pops”.
