O’s Notes: Professor Benjamin Boone is a well-respected saxophonist (alto & soprano), composer, bandleader and Fulbright Scholar. He was blown away by the level of talent and intensity of the musicians in Ghana where he recorded Joy with the Ghana Jazz Collective. The funky bass from Bright Osei along with popping drum beats from Frank Kissi establish a strong groove starting with “The Intricacies of Alice” followed by a fresh cover of “Maiden Voyage”, with pulsating beats on “The 233 Jazz Bar”. Sandra Hudson adds vocals on three selections notably “Without You”, a ballad that rounds out the set.
