O’s Notes: Ronny is a polished guitarist who is among the most creative, grooving contemporary artists on the jazz scene today. He composed nine of the ten songs here. The cover is an electrifying version of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition”. There is a good mix of sizzle and chill with relaxing tunes like “95 Drive” and the soothing “Forever Friends” complementing the high energy of “Groove 106”. We also enjoyed the Latin groove of “Ticket to Miami” and “Blue Bossa”. Smith arranges, produces and mans the keyboards and programming but uses other musicians as well. Drummer Vernell Mincey, Karl McNeil (b), Tony Whitfield (b) and Scott Martin (sax) help give this release added punch.
