O’s Notes: Mike Cottone produces smooth, rich tones with his trumpet. He composed and arranged six of ten modern jazz songs that range from slow paced to cookin’. Cottone gets help from pianist Kris Bowers, Jeremy Viner (sax), Paul Sikivie (b) and producer Ulysses Owens, Jr. (d). We liked the upbeat, syncopated beats of “Gyroscope” and “Sloppin'” but Mike really shines on lush ballads like “When Sunny Gets Blue” and the bluesy “I’m Sure”.
